Baked Chicken Wings recipe

Posted on September 28, 2024
Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Baked Chicken Wings that gives you crispy, flavorful wings without frying.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and flats)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder (this helps to make them crispy)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • Your favorite wing sauce (like buffalo, BBQ, honey garlic, etc.) for tossing

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place an oven-safe wire rack on top. This helps air circulate around the wings, making them crispy.

Step 2: Prepare the Chicken Wings

  1. Pat the wings dry using paper towels. This step is important to ensure they get crispy while baking.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the wings with baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and any additional seasonings like cayenne pepper or onion powder.

Step 3: Arrange and Bake

  1. Place the wings in a single layer on the prepared wire rack. Make sure they are not touching each other to allow for even cooking.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, turning the wings halfway through to ensure both sides get crispy.

Step 4: Optional Broil for Extra Crispiness

  1. If the wings aren’t crispy enough, turn on the broiler for the last 3-5 minutes of cooking, but keep an eye on them to avoid burning.

Step 5: Toss in Sauce

  1. Once the wings are crispy and cooked through, remove them from the oven.
  2. Toss the wings in your favorite wing sauce (buffalo, BBQ, honey garlic, etc.) or serve them with the sauce on the side for dipping.

Serve:

  • Serve hot with a side of ranch or blue cheese dressing, and some celery sticks for a classic wing experience.

Tips:

  • Baking powder is key to making the wings crispy, but avoid using baking soda, which can give an unpleasant taste.
  • For extra flavor, you can marinate the wings in your favorite sauce for a few hours before baking.

Enjoy your crispy, baked chicken wings!
