Keto Monte Cristo Sandwich

Posted on October 2, 2024
Here’s a Keto Monte Cristo Sandwich recipe, a low-carb take on the classic! This sandwich features keto-friendly bread, layers of ham, turkey, and cheese, with a delicious egg coating.

Ingredients:

For the Keto Bread:

  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 slices of keto bread (from above)
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 4 slices of deli ham
  • 4 slices of deli turkey
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter (for frying)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Sugar-free syrup or powdered erythritol (for a sweet touch)
  • Mustard (for a savory touch)

Instructions:

Make the Keto Bread:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine almond flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and melted butter. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until well combined.
  4. Bake: Pour the mixture into the loaf pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bread cool completely before slicing.

Assemble the Sandwich:

  1. Layer the sandwich: Take two slices of keto bread. Place one slice of Swiss cheese on each, followed by ham and turkey slices. Top with another slice of Swiss cheese and then close the sandwich with the remaining bread slices.
  2. Prepare the egg coating: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream.
  3. Dip the sandwich: Dip both sides of the sandwich in the egg mixture, making sure it’s fully coated.
  4. Cook the sandwich: Heat 1 tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwich on both sides until golden brown and the cheese is melted (about 2-3 minutes per side).

Serve:

You can sprinkle a little sugar-free powdered erythritol on top if you like a sweet finish, or serve with mustard for a savory version. Sugar-free syrup also goes well if you enjoy the sweet-and-savory contrast!

Enjoy your keto-friendly Monte Cristo!
