Cinnamon Bread from the Amish Community

Amish Cinnamon Bread is a soft and sweet bread with a delightful cinnamon swirl. It’s often made with simple, wholesome ingredients. Here’s a recipe to try:

Amish Cinnamon Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

For the bread:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk (or 2 cups milk with 2 tbsp white vinegar, let it sit for 5 minutes)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda

For the cinnamon swirl:

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9×5-inch loaf pans.
  2. Prepare the batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 2 cups of sugar until fluffy.
    • Beat in the eggs, one at a time.
    • Add the buttermilk and baking soda and mix until combined.
    • Gradually stir in the flour until the batter is smooth.
  3. Prepare the cinnamon swirl:
    • In a small bowl, combine the 2/3 cup sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon.
  4. Layer the bread:
    • Pour half of the batter evenly between the two prepared loaf pans.
    • Sprinkle 3/4 of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter in each pan.
    • Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon layer and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
    • Use a knife or a skewer to gently swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter in each pan.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the bread to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before removing them to cool completely on a wire rack.

This cinnamon bread pairs beautifully with a cup of coffee or as a sweet treat any time of the day. Enjoy the warm, cinnamon aroma as it bakes!
