Chinese Pepper Steak

Chinese Pepper Steak is a savory and flavorful dish featuring thinly sliced beef, colorful bell peppers, and a tasty sauce. Here’s a simple recipe for making Chinese Pepper Steak at home:

Ingredients:

For the Marinade:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water

For the Stir-Fry:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (different colors), thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • Cooked white rice for serving

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, sugar, and black pepper. Let it marinate for at least 15-20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and water to create the sauce. Set aside.
  3. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they start to soften but are still slightly crisp. Remove the vegetables from the wok and set aside.
  4. Cook the Beef:
    • Add another tablespoon of oil to the wok. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  5. Combine Vegetables and Beef:
    • Return the cooked vegetables to the wok with the beef. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir to combine.
  6. Add Sauce:
    • Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Allow the sauce to thicken.
  7. Serve:
    • Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded, remove the wok from heat.
  8. Serve Over Rice:
    • Serve the Chinese Pepper Steak over cooked white rice.
