Brown Sugar Chicken Tenders

Posted on January 6, 2025
Brown Sugar Chicken Tenders are a delicious, sweet-savory dish that combines tender chicken with a sticky, caramelized glaze. This recipe is easy to make and perfect for a family meal or a quick dinner. The brown sugar adds sweetness, while the seasonings create a mouthwatering balance of flavors.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) chicken tenders (or chicken breasts cut into strips)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (use low-sodium if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional, for a bit of tang)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional for a smoky flavor)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Chicken:

  1. Pat the chicken tenders dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps the glaze stick better.
  2. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika (if using). Set aside.

2. Make the Brown Sugar Glaze:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, soy sauce, Dijon mustard (if using), and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (if desired).
  2. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the glaze is smooth.

3. Cook the Chicken:

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, add the seasoned chicken tenders.
  2. Cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).

4. Glaze the Chicken:

  1. Once the chicken is cooked through, reduce the heat to low and pour the brown sugar glaze over the chicken tenders.
  2. Let the glaze simmer and thicken for about 1-2 minutes, turning the chicken to coat it evenly in the sauce. The sugar will caramelize and form a sticky coating on the chicken.

5. Serve:

  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and serve it hot.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color.

Tips:

  • Make it Spicy: For an extra kick, add more crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the glaze.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes, rice, or a fresh salad. They also go great with steamed vegetables or roasted potatoes.
  • Make Ahead: You can marinate the chicken in the glaze for 30 minutes before cooking to enhance the flavor.

These Brown Sugar Chicken Tenders are sweet, savory, and absolutely delicious, making them a great choice for a quick and flavorful meal. Enjoy!
