Egg Roll

Posted on January 30, 2025
Sure! Here’s a simple egg roll recipe you can try at home. It’s a basic version with ground pork, but you can swap the protein or add extra veggies if you prefer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork (or chicken, shrimp, or tofu for a variation)
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (or a mix of cabbage and carrots)
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, but adds great flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Egg roll wrappers (about 12, available at most grocery stores)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil works well)
  • 1 egg (for sealing the wrappers)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling:
    • In a large skillet or wok, heat a bit of oil over medium heat. Add the ground pork and cook, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes).
    • Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
    • Stir in the cabbage, carrots, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, black pepper, and sesame oil. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  2. Assemble the egg rolls:
    • Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface (like a cutting board), with one corner pointing toward you (like a diamond).
    • Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the filling near the center of the wrapper.
    • Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the two side corners. Brush the top corner with a little beaten egg to help seal the wrapper.
    • Roll the egg roll up tightly, making sure the edges are sealed well.
  3. Fry the egg rolls:
    • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Carefully drop the egg rolls in the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to crowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes.
    • Remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce!

Enjoy your crispy, homemade egg rolls! Let me know how they turn out if you give them a try.
