Crockpot Hot Dog Chili Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a leaner version)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water (or beef broth for more flavor)
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for a little heat)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Ground Beef:

    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Prepare the Chili Base:

    • Transfer the browned beef to the Crockpot.
    • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the Crockpot.
  3. Add the Rest of the Ingredients:

    • Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, water (or beef broth), mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, pepper, ketchup, and brown sugar (if using).
    • Stir everything together until well combined.
  4. Slow Cook:

    • Cover the Crockpot and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or on high for 2-3 hours. Stir occasionally if possible to make sure the chili doesn’t stick to the sides.
  5. Taste and Adjust:

    • After cooking, taste the chili and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, or chili powder if desired.
  6. Serve:

    • Spoon the hot dog chili over your hot dogs. You can also serve it over baked potatoes, nachos, or chili cheese fries for an extra indulgent meal.

Optional Toppings:

  • Shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • Chopped onions
  • Sliced jalapeños (for heat)
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Sour cream
  • Hot sauce

Serving Suggestions:

  • This Crockpot Hot Dog Chili is perfect for a cookout, game day, or a casual family dinner. Serve it with buns, hot dogs, or as a topping for burgers, chili fries, or baked potatoes.

Tips:

  • Make Ahead: You can make the chili ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze it for up to 3 months.
  • Customize the Heat: Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper or add jalapeños to make it spicier. If you prefer a milder chili, you can skip the cayenne pepper altogether.

This Crockpot Hot Dog Chili is a quick, easy, and tasty way to elevate your hot dogs, making them extra flavorful and filling. Enjoy!
