crab rangoon egg rolls recipe

Posted on January 28, 2024

Crab Rangoon egg rolls are a delicious twist on the classic appetizer. Here’s a recipe to make them at home:

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup crab meat (canned or imitation), drained and chopped
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • Water, for sealing
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped crab meat, sliced green onions, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Assemble the Egg Rolls:
    • Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface, with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape).
    • Place about 2 tablespoons of the crab filling in the center of the wrapper, spreading it out into a log shape.
    • Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, then fold the side corners towards the center. Roll up tightly, like you would a burrito, and seal the top corner with a bit of water. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  3. Fry the Egg Rolls:
    • In a deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
    • Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
    • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried egg rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the crab Rangoon egg rolls hot, with sweet and sour sauce or plum sauce for dipping, if desired.

Tips:

  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • You can use canned crab meat or imitation crab meat for convenience.
  • Seal the egg roll wrappers tightly to prevent the filling from leaking out during frying.
  • Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences. You can add more soy sauce or sesame oil for extra flavor.

Enjoy your homemade crab Rangoon egg rolls as a delicious appetizer or snack for parties or gatherings!
