Easy no knead bread

Posted on February 26, 2024
Making no-knead bread is a simple and rewarding process, requiring minimal effort and just a few basic ingredients. Here’s a straightforward recipe for easy no-knead bread:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and instant yeast. Stir to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  2. Add the lukewarm water to the flour mixture. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix until all the flour is hydrated and a sticky, shaggy dough forms. It’s okay if it looks a bit rough; you’re aiming for a wet and sticky dough.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rest at room temperature for at least 12 hours, preferably up to 18-24 hours. This allows the dough to ferment and develop flavor.
  4. After the resting period, the dough will be bubbly and risen, with a slightly wet and sticky texture.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven or heavy oven-safe pot with a lid into the preheated oven and let it heat for at least 30 minutes.
  6. While the pot is heating, lightly flour a work surface and your hands. Carefully remove the dough from the bowl onto the floured surface. Shape it gently into a round loaf, being careful not to deflate it too much.
  7. Once the pot is hot, carefully remove it from the oven using oven mitts. Remove the lid and place the shaped dough into the hot pot. Be cautious as the pot will be extremely hot.
  8. Cover the pot with the lid and return it to the oven. Bake covered for 30 minutes.
  9. After 30 minutes, remove the lid and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crusty.
  10. Once baked, carefully remove the bread from the pot and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
  11. Enjoy your freshly baked no-knead bread with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings!

This no-knead bread recipe produces a rustic loaf with a crisp crust and a soft, chewy interior. It’s perfect for sandwiches, toast, or simply enjoyed on its own. Feel free to experiment with different types of flour or add-ins like herbs, seeds, or cheese to customize the bread to your liking.
