Orange Sour Cream Rolls

Orange sour cream rolls are a delightful variation of classic dinner rolls, infused with the citrusy flavor of orange and the creamy richness of sour cream. Here’s a recipe to make these delicious rolls:Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed is best)
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 2 large eggs

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Zest of 1 orange

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, heat the sour cream and melted butter until warm, but not hot. Stir in the orange juice and orange zest.
  3. Add the sour cream mixture to the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until well combined.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×18 inches in size.
  9. Spread the softened butter evenly over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle the granulated sugar and orange zest over the butter.
  10. Starting from one long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  11. Using a sharp knife or a piece of dental floss, cut the dough into 12 equal-sized rolls.
  12. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  13. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth.
  15. Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls.
  16. Garnish with additional orange zest, if desired.
  17. Serve the orange sour cream rolls warm and enjoy their delicious flavor and aroma!
