Creamy and Cheesy Beef Goulash Recipe

This creamy and cheesy beef goulash is a comforting and hearty dish that’s perfect for family dinners. With tender ground beef, pasta, and a rich, cheesy sauce, it’s a meal everyone will love.

Ingredients:

  • For the Goulash:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 medium onion, diced
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
    • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • For the Creamy Cheese Sauce:
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
    • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings:
    • Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juice), tomato sauce, beef broth, paprika, dried oregano, and dried basil.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Cook the Pasta:
    • Bring the mixture to a boil, then add the uncooked elbow macaroni.
    • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Prepare the Creamy Cheese Sauce:
    • In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to create a roux.
    • Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to whisk until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble.
    • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until melted and smooth.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Combine the Goulash and Cheese Sauce:
    • Pour the creamy cheese sauce into the pot with the cooked goulash.
    • Stir until everything is well combined and the pasta is evenly coated with the cheesy sauce.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the creamy and cheesy beef goulash hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

Tips:

  • Ground Beef: For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
  • Cheese: Feel free to use your favorite cheeses or a combination of different cheeses for the sauce.
  • Vegetables: Add in some diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini for extra veggies.
  • Make Ahead: This dish can be made ahead and reheated. It might thicken as it cools, so you can add a splash of milk when reheating to reach the desired consistency.

Enjoy your creamy and cheesy beef goulash for a delicious and satisfying meal!
