Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Roasted Brussels sprouts are a simple, healthy, and delicious side dish that brings out the natural sweetness and nuttiness of the sprouts. They’re crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making them a perfect accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts:
    • Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves.
    • Cut the Brussels sprouts in half lengthwise for even roasting.
  3. Season the Brussels Sprouts:
    • In a large bowl, toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
    • If using, add the minced garlic and toss to coat evenly.
  4. Roast the Brussels Sprouts:
    • Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on a baking sheet, cut side down.
    • Roast in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the Brussels sprouts are golden brown and crispy on the edges. Shake the pan halfway through the cooking time to ensure even roasting.
  5. Finish and Serve:
    • If desired, drizzle the roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
    • Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Tips:

  • Crispy Sprouts: For extra crispy Brussels sprouts, make sure they are spread out in a single layer on the baking sheet without overcrowding.
  • Flavor Variations: Experiment with different seasonings like smoked paprika, lemon zest, or a dash of soy sauce for added flavor.
  • Add-ins: Include other vegetables like carrots or sweet potatoes for a mixed roasted vegetable dish.
