Amish Cinnamon Bread Recipe

Posted on January 4, 2024
Amish Cinnamon Bread is a delightful sweet bread that’s known for its cinnamon-sugar swirl. Here’s a recipe to make this comforting treat:Ingredients for the Bread:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups buttermilk (or make a substitute by adding 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice to 2 cups of milk, let sit for 5-10 minutes)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Ingredients for the Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture:

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two loaf pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 2 cups of sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking soda.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and 2/3 cup of sugar to create the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  6. Pour a quarter of the batter evenly into the two greased loaf pans. Sprinkle a generous amount of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter in each pan. Repeat the layers, ending with the cinnamon-sugar on top.
  7. Use a knife or a skewer to gently swirl the cinnamon-sugar mixture through the batter in each pan, creating a marbled effect.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the bread to cool in the pans for about 10-15 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

This Amish Cinnamon Bread is wonderful when served warm or at room temperature. Enjoy the delightful cinnamon swirls in each slice!
