Biscuits gravy casserole

Posted on January 6, 2024
Absolutely! Here’s a simple recipe for biscuits and gravy casserole:Ingredients:

For the Biscuits:

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuits (you can use buttermilk biscuits for more flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground sage for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the biscuits: Cut each biscuit into quarters. Place them evenly in the bottom of the baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter over the biscuits.
  3. Bake the biscuits for about 10-12 minutes or until they start to rise and turn slightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  4. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks, until it’s browned and cooked through.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir and cook for about a minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
  6. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook and stir until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Season the gravy with salt, pepper, and optional ground sage to taste. Remember to taste as you season!
  8. Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the baked biscuits in the baking dish.
  9. If desired, you can add a layer of shredded cheese on top of the gravy for extra richness.
  10. Place the casserole back in the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the gravy is bubbly and the biscuits are fully cooked and golden on top.
  11. Once done, let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

This casserole is a wonderful breakfast treat, and you can always tweak it by adding different cheeses, herbs, or even vegetables to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy your delicious biscuits and gravy casserole!
