A Cheesy Bacon and Sausage Bread is a delicious, savory baked treat that combines crispy bacon, flavorful sausage, and melted cheese, all wrapped up in a soft, pillowy bread. This is great as a snack, breakfast, or even served alongside a hearty meal. Here’s a recipe to make it:

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
    • ½ cup milk
  • For the filling:
    • 4 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
    • 2 sausages (breakfast sausage or Italian sausage), cooked and crumbled
    • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning (optional)
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • For brushing:
    • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
    • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water and sprinkle the yeast over it. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, milk, and olive oil (or melted butter). Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the filling:
    • While the dough is rising, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove from the pan, crumble, and set aside.
    • Cook the sausage in the same pan, breaking it apart into small crumbles as it cooks. Once fully cooked, drain any excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool.
  3. Assemble the bread:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 12×18 inches.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the dough.
    • Evenly distribute the crumbled bacon and sausage over the cheese.
    • Optionally, sprinkle garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of black pepper on top.
    • Roll the dough tightly from one edge, forming a log or cylinder.
    • Pinch the edges to seal the roll and tuck the ends under.
  4. Bake the bread:
    • Place the rolled dough onto a greased baking sheet or into a greased loaf pan.
    • Brush the top with melted butter and, if desired, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top for added flavor.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top and cooked through.
    • Let the bread cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Slice and serve warm, maybe with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
  • Great with a fresh green salad or as a stand-alone snack.
