cheesy sausages

Posted on February 5, 2025
Cheesy Sausages are a quick, delicious dish that combines savory sausages with melted cheese for a comforting, flavorful meal. You can make them in a skillet, oven, or even on the grill, depending on your preference. They’re great as an appetizer, snack, or part of a larger meal. Here’s a simple recipe for Cheesy Sausages:

Cheesy Sausages Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4-6 sausages (Italian, bratwurst, or your favorite type)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional, for cooking)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend of your favorites)
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for a bit of tang)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Sausages:
    • If you’re using raw sausages, cook them first. You can grill, pan-fry, or bake them. To pan-fry, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook, turning occasionally, for about 10-12 minutes, or until they’re fully cooked through and golden brown. Alternatively, bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through.
    • Once the sausages are cooked, remove them from the skillet or oven and set them aside.
  2. Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
    • In a small bowl, combine the shredded cheese, cream cheese (if using), and Dijon mustard (if using). Mix until smooth and well combined. You can also add a pinch of salt and pepper here if desired.
  3. Top the Sausages with Cheese:
    • Slice the cooked sausages lengthwise, creating a pocket for the cheese (but don’t cut all the way through).
    • Fill the slit in each sausage with the cheesy mixture. If you like, you can sprinkle more shredded cheese on top of the sausages for an extra cheesy layer.
  4. Melt the Cheese:
    • Oven Method: Preheat your oven’s broiler to high. Place the stuffed sausages under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • Skillet Method: You can also melt the cheese in the skillet. Simply place the sausages back in the skillet on low heat, cover with a lid, and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Once the cheese is melted and golden, remove the sausages from the heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.
    • Serve the Cheesy Sausages with a side of vegetables, a simple salad, or on their own as a snack.

Tips:

  • Cheese Options: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses—cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack, gouda, or Swiss are all great options.
  • Additions: For extra flavor, you can top the cheesy sausages with sautéed onions, bell peppers, or even a drizzle of BBQ sauce.
  • For Extra Creaminess: Add a spoonful of sour cream or Greek yogurt to the cheese mixture for a creamy finish.

These Cheesy Sausages are a crowd-pleasing snack or main dish, packed with savory flavors and gooey cheese. The combination of juicy sausage with melted cheese is always a hit!

Do you have any favorite toppings or variations you’d like to add to the cheesy sausages?
