Posted on February 9, 2025

Here’s a simple and delicious chocolate cake recipe for you to try:

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
  • 2/3 cup (55g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 and 1/2 cups (440g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. Make the cake:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Gradually add the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay!
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

3. Bake:

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

4. Make the frosting:

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the milk and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  • Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until smooth and well combined. If it’s too thick, add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time.

5. Assemble the cake:

  • Once the cakes have cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate.
  • Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second cake layer on top.
  • Frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

6. Serve and enjoy!

This cake is rich and moist, with a smooth, chocolatey frosting. You can also add chocolate chips or even a few berries for extra
