Absolutely, here’s a complete recipe for a classic chocolate cake:Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee)

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3-4 tablespoons whole milk or cream
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat and Prepare:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Add Boiling Water (or Coffee):
    • Slowly add the boiling water (or hot coffee) to the batter while stirring continuously. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
  6. Bake:
    • Divide the batter equally between the prepared cake pans.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
    • Remove the pans from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10-15 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  1. Prepare the Frosting:
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth.
    • Sift in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Beat on low speed until combined.
    • Add the milk or cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt (if using). Beat on medium-high speed until the frosting is light and fluffy. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
  2. Assemble the Cake:
    • Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate or cake stand. Spread a layer of frosting over the top.
    • Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
  3. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Slice and serve the delicious homemade chocolate cake!
