Copycat Dolly Parton’s Stampede Soup

Posted on September 18, 2025

Yeehaw! You’re in for a real treat. 🎵 Dolly Parton’s Stampede (formerly Dixie Stampede) is famous not just for its horse-ridin’ dinner show, but also for that rich, creamy, comforting soup that kicks off the meal — often called Stampede Soup.

This is a copycat recipe that gets as close as possible to the real thing: creamy, velvety, and full of down-home flavor. It’s basically a creamy vegetable soup, and it’s way more delicious than it sounds.

🥣 Copycat Dolly Parton’s Stampede Soup

(Creamy Vegetable Soup)

🛒 Ingredients:

  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • 1½ cups water

  • ¾ cup finely diced celery

  • ¾ cup finely diced carrots

  • ¾ cup frozen or canned corn

  • ¼ cup onion, finely diced

  • 1½ cups instant mashed potato flakes (secret ingredient!)

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tablespoons butter

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Sauté vegetables:

    • In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.

    • Add celery, carrots, onion, and corn. Sauté for 5–7 minutes, until slightly softened.

  2. Add broth & water:

    • Pour in chicken broth and water. Bring to a boil.

    • Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, until vegetables are tender.

  3. Thicken with potatoes:

    • Stir in the instant potato flakes gradually, mixing well to avoid lumps.

    • Simmer for another 5–10 minutes until thickened.

  4. Add cream & season:

    • Stir in the heavy cream, garlic powder, pepper, and salt to taste.

    • Heat through (don’t boil), and adjust seasoning as needed.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve hot with warm biscuits or crusty bread.

  • For the full Dolly experience, serve before roast chicken, corn on the cob, potatoes, and finish with apple turnover!

🔄 Variations:

  • Add shredded rotisserie chicken to make it a main dish.

  • Use half-and-half instead of cream for a lighter version.

  • Want it vegetarian? Use veggie broth and skip the chicken base.
