Frozen Healthier Snickers

Posted on September 29, 2023
Creating a healthier version of Snickers involves substituting or modifying certain ingredients to reduce the overall calorie and sugar content while maintaining a satisfying taste. Here’s a simple recipe for a frozen, healthier Snickers-inspired treat:

Healthy Frozen Snickers Bites:

Ingredients:

  1. Nougat Layer:
    • 1 cup rolled oats (blended into a flour-like consistency)
    • 1/4 cup almond flour
    • 1/4 cup peanut butter (unsweetened)
    • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Caramel Layer:

  1. 1/2 cup dates (soaked in hot water for about 15 minutes, then drained)
  2. 2 tablespoons almond butter
  3. 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
  4. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  5. A pinch of sea salt

Nut Layer:

  1. 1/2 cup mixed nuts (e.g., almonds, peanuts, cashews), chopped

Chocolate Coating:

  1. 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (at least 70% cocoa)
  2. 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. Nougat Layer:
    • In a food processor, blend the rolled oats until they reach a flour-like consistency.
    • Add almond flour, peanut butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Blend until well combined.
    • Press the mixture into the bottom of a lined square or rectangular pan. Place in the freezer to set.
  2. Caramel Layer:
    • Blend soaked dates, almond butter, melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt until smooth.
    • Spread the caramel layer over the nougat layer and sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
    • Return the pan to the freezer and let it set for at least 2 hours.
  3. Chocolate Coating:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt dark chocolate chips and coconut oil together, stirring until smooth.
    • Take the pan out of the freezer and cut the mixture into bite-sized bars.
    • Using a fork or toothpick, dip each bar into the melted chocolate, coating it evenly.
    • Place the coated bars on a parchment-lined tray and return them to the freezer until the chocolate hardens.
  4. Enjoy:
    • Once the chocolate is fully set, your healthier frozen Snickers bites are ready to be enjoyed! Store any leftovers in the freezer.

This recipe provides a balance of healthy fats, whole grains, and natural sweeteners, making it a better alternative to traditional Snickers. Adjust the ingredient quantities according to your taste preferences and dietary needs.
