German Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars combine the rich flavors of German chocolate cake and classic pecan pie into a convenient bar form. Here’s a delicious recipe to make them:

German Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg yolk

For the filling:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup corn syrup
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup German chocolate, chopped or roughly chopped baking chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

For the crust:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in the softened butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the egg yolk and mix until the dough comes together.
  5. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  6. Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until it’s lightly golden. Remove it from the oven and set aside to cool slightly.

For the filling:

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and corn syrup, and cook until the mixture is smooth and slightly bubbly (about 2-3 minutes). Remove from heat.
  2. Stir in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and salt, and stir to combine.
  4. Fold in the chopped pecans and German chocolate pieces. The chocolate will begin to melt, creating a rich, gooey texture.
  5. Pour the filling over the partially baked crust and spread it evenly.
  6. Return the bars to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and golden brown around the edges.
  7. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares or bars.

Enjoy these decadent bars as a dessert, and savor the blend of chocolate, caramel, and pecan flavors!
