Lobster Casserole

Posted on October 30, 2023
Lobster casserole is a delightful and decadent dish that features tender lobster meat baked in a rich and creamy sauce, often topped with a buttery crumb or cheese topping. Here’s a basic recipe for making lobster casserole:Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked lobster meat, roughly chopped (about 2 small lobsters)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (or your choice of cheese)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the flour to the melted butter and stir continuously to create a roux. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the roux becomes a pale golden color.
  4. Slowly whisk in the whole milk and heavy cream to the roux, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the shredded Gruyere cheese and grated Parmesan cheese until they are fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. If using, add the white wine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the alcohol to cook off.
  7. Season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
  8. Add the cooked and chopped lobster meat to the sauce, gently folding it in until the lobster is coated with the creamy mixture. Stir in the chopped fresh parsley.
  9. Transfer the lobster mixture to a greased casserole dish.
  10. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the lobster casserole.
  11. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown, and the casserole is bubbling.
  12. Remove the lobster casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Lobster casserole is a rich and sumptuous dish that’s perfect for special occasions or when you want to enjoy lobster in a different way. It’s best served hot, and you can garnish it with additional fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy!
