Make Natural Banana Candy

Posted on January 25, 2025
Making natural banana candy is a great way to satisfy a sweet craving without all the added sugars and artificial ingredients in store-bought candy! You can make a simple, healthier version of banana candy by dehydrating bananas to create banana chips or by turning them into chewy, caramelized banana treats. Here’s a method for both:

1. Natural Dried Banana Chips

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C) or set up a food dehydrator.
  2. Peel the bananas and slice them into thin rounds or long strips, depending on your preference.
  3. Place the banana slices in a bowl and toss them gently with lemon juice. This helps prevent browning.
  4. Arrange the banana slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. If using an oven, place the sheet in the oven and bake for 2–3 hours, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are dry and slightly crispy. If using a dehydrator, follow the manufacturer’s instructions (usually around 8-10 hours).
  6. Let the banana chips cool, and store them in an airtight container.

2. Caramelized Banana Candies (Chewy)

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (or butter)
  • 1-2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, depending on sweetness preference)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mash the bananas in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Heat a pan over medium heat and add the coconut oil (or butter).
  3. Once the oil is melted, pour in the mashed bananas and stir frequently. Let them cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and becomes golden brown.
  4. Add honey or maple syrup if you want extra sweetness, and stir in the cinnamon for added flavor.
  5. Once the mixture has thickened to a caramel-like consistency, scoop small spoonfuls onto parchment paper and allow them to cool down completely.
  6. Once cooled, the banana candies should have a chewy, caramelized texture.

Both of these options are a great way to enjoy the natural sweetness of bananas! The chips are crispy and great for snacking, while the caramelized candies are more like a chewy treat. Enjoy!
