Classic Meatloaf Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the Meatloaf:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or Italian seasoning)
- For the Glaze:
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix the Meatloaf: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
- Shape the Meatloaf: Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a lined baking sheet.
- Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Spread half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). About 15 minutes before it’s done, add the remaining glaze on top.
- Rest and Serve: Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite sides, like mashed potatoes or green beans.
Tips:
- For added flavor, you can mix in chopped bell peppers, grated carrots, or celery.
- Leftover meatloaf makes great sandwiches!
Enjoy your delicious meatloaf!
