Basic Vegan Pizza Dough

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 cup warm water
    • 1 packet active dry yeast
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Instructions:
    1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
    3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
    4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
    5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.  

Vegan Pizza Sauce

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • 1/2 onion, chopped
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Instructions:
    1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion, and cook until softened.
    2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    3. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until thickened.

Vegan Pizza Toppings

  • Popular options include:
    • Mushrooms
    • Onions
    • Bell peppers
    • Spinach
    • Olives
    • Artichokes
    • Pineapple
    • Vegan cheese (e.g., Daiya, Violife)
    • Vegan sausage
    • Vegan pepperoni

To make your pizza:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness.
  3. Transfer the dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  4. Spread the vegan pizza sauce evenly over the dough.
  5. Top with your favorite vegan toppings.
  6. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
