potato cutlet

Posted on September 28, 2024

Potato Cutlets are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. These delicious potato patties make for a great snack or side dish and can be served with your favorite dips or chutneys.

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional for heat)
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 tsp garam masala or cumin powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste (optional for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs (plus more for coating)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or flour (for binding)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Oil for shallow frying

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Potato Mixture

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, onion, green chilies, coriander, garam masala, red chili powder, and ginger-garlic paste (if using).
  2. Add the bread crumbs and cornstarch (or flour) to help bind the mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Mix everything well until you have a smooth, cohesive dough.

Step 2: Shape the Cutlets

  1. Divide the potato mixture into small portions (about 2-3 tbsp each) and shape them into round, flat patties or cutlets.

Step 3: Coat the Cutlets

  1. Roll each cutlet in a plate of bread crumbs to coat them evenly. This will give them a crispy exterior when fried.

Step 4: Fry the Cutlets

  1. Heat a few tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the cutlets into the pan and shallow-fry them until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  3. Remove and drain the cutlets on a paper towel to get rid of excess oil.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Serve the crispy potato cutlets hot with your favorite chutney, ketchup, or a side of yogurt.

Tips:

  • You can add finely chopped spinach, peas, or grated carrots for extra nutrition and flavor.
  • These cutlets can also be baked in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, for a healthier version.

These Potato Cutlets are perfect as an appetizer or snack and can easily be customized with your favorite spices and ingredients!
