This Ultimate Cheesy Sandwich combines multiple types of cheese with a crispy, buttery exterior and a soft, gooey interior. It’s perfect for a quick lunch or a comforting snack.

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of hearty bread (like sourdough, ciabatta, or artisan white bread)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs (like basil, parsley, or chives) (optional)
  • 4 slices of tomato (optional)
  • 4 slices of cooked bacon (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  1. Mix Cheeses:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cheddar, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and cream cheese. Mix until well blended.
  2. Season:
    • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to the cheese mixture. Mix well. If using, stir in the chopped fresh herbs.

Step 2: Assemble the Sandwiches

  1. Butter the Bread:
    • Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
  2. Add Cheese Mixture:
    • On the unbuttered side of two bread slices, spread the cheese mixture evenly.
  3. Add Extras:
    • If using, place two slices of tomato and two slices of cooked bacon on top of the cheese mixture.
  4. Top with Bread:
    • Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.

Step 3: Cook the Sandwiches

  1. Heat Skillet:
    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Grill Sandwiches:
    • Place the sandwiches in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing down gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and gooey.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Slice and Serve:
    • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute. Slice each sandwich in half and serve immediately.
