Sausage Mushroom Puffs

Posted on March 25, 2024
Sausage Mushroom Puffs are a delightful appetizer or snack that’s perfect for parties or gatherings. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz breakfast sausage (pork or turkey), casings removed
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into smaller pieces with a spatula. Remove the cooked sausage from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  3. In the same skillet, add the chopped mushrooms and onion. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms have released their moisture and the onions are softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, mushroom mixture, grated Parmesan cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  5. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×10 inches. Cut the puff pastry sheet into 2-inch squares using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  6. Place a spoonful of the sausage and mushroom mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
  7. Fold the corners of each puff pastry square over the filling, forming a little pouch or pocket. Press the edges together to seal, forming a ball shape.
  8. Place the filled puff pastry balls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops of the puff pastry balls with beaten egg to create a golden brown finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  12. Serve the Sausage Mushroom Puffs warm as a delicious appetizer or snack.

Enjoy your flavorful and savory Sausage Mushroom Puffs! They’re sure to be a hit at any party or gathering.
