Making sourdough pizza rolls is a creative and delicious way to enjoy the tangy flavor of sourdough in a bite-sized form. Here’s a simple recipe for sourdough pizza rolls:

Ingredients:

For the Sourdough Pizza Dough:

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Pizza Filling:

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Your favorite pizza toppings (e.g., pepperoni, diced bell peppers, olives, etc.)

For the Garlic Butter Glaze (Optional):

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Sourdough Pizza Dough:

  1. In a bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, all-purpose flour, warm water, olive oil, sugar, and salt.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise at room temperature for about 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.

2. Roll Out the Dough:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the sourdough pizza dough on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

3. Add the Pizza Filling:

  1. Spread pizza sauce evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  2. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  3. Add your favorite pizza toppings.

4. Roll Up the Dough:

  1. Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a log.
  2. Use a sharp knife to cut the log into slices, about 1-2 inches thick.

5. Place on Baking Sheet:

  1. Arrange the pizza rolls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.

6. Bake:

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pizza rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melted.

7. Optional Garlic Butter Glaze:

  1. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic and chopped fresh parsley.
  2. Brush the garlic butter glaze over the warm pizza rolls after they come out of the oven.
  3. Serve the sourdough pizza rolls warm.
