Spicy steak fajitas

Posted on February 23, 2024
Spicy steak fajitas are a delicious and flavorful dish that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner or entertaining guests. Here’s a recipe to make them:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak, skirt steak, or sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Flour or corn tortillas, for serving
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, chopped cilantro, lime wedges

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, soy sauce, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to make the marinade.
  2. Place the thinly sliced steak in a shallow dish or a large resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the steak, making sure it’s evenly coated. Cover the dish or seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. In a large skillet or cast-iron pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté until they are softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the marinated steak slices in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Do not overcrowd the skillet; you may need to cook the steak in batches.
  5. Once the steak is cooked, return the sautéed onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Toss everything together to combine and heat through.
  6. Warm the flour or corn tortillas in a dry skillet or wrap them in aluminum foil and heat them in the oven.
  7. Serve the spicy steak fajitas with warm tortillas and optional toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, chopped cilantro, and lime wedges.
  8. Enjoy your delicious and spicy steak fajitas with family and friends!

Feel free to customize your fajitas by adding additional toppings or adjusting the level of spiciness to suit your taste preferences. These fajitas also work well with chicken or shrimp if you prefer a different protein option.
