Here’s a quick and easy white bread recipe β€” perfect when you want fresh, soft bread without waiting all day for long rises. This version is simple, soft, and fluffy, ideal for sandwiches, toast, or just slathering with butter.

πŸ“ Ingredients (Makes 1 loaf):

Ingredient Amount
All-purpose flour 3Β½ cups (420g)
Warm water (110Β°F/43Β°C) 1 cup (240ml)
Active dry yeast 2ΒΌ tsp (1 packet)
Sugar 2 tbsp
Salt 1Β½ tsp
Vegetable oil (or melted butter) 2 tbsp

1. Activate the Yeast

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast.

  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes, until the mixture is foamy.

2. Mix the Dough

  • Add oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix until combined.

  • Gradually add the remaining flour (up to 1Β½ cups) until a soft dough forms.

  • Dough should be slightly sticky but pull away from the sides of the bowl.

3. Knead the Dough

  • Knead on a floured surface (or with a dough hook) for about 6–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

4. First Rise (Fast!)

  • Place dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap.

  • Let rise in a warm place for 30–45 minutes, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape the Loaf

  • Punch down the dough. Shape it into a loaf and place in a greased 9×5″ loaf pan.

  • Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes, until it puffs up above the pan.

6. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

7. Cool

  • Let cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.


🧈 Optional: Finishing Touch

  • Brush with melted butter right after baking for a soft, shiny crust.

  • Keeps at room temperature (wrapped) for up to 3 days.

  • Freezes well: wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months.
