Without a doubt, the simplest and most delicious frosting ever

Posted on August 30, 2024
For a simple and delicious frosting, you can’t go wrong with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. It’s quick to make, versatile, and incredibly tasty.

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions:

1. Beat the Butter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.

2. Add the Sugar:

  • Gradually add 3 cups of sifted powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed until fully incorporated. Once combined, increase the speed to medium and beat for another 2-3 minutes. If the frosting is too thick, you can add more powdered sugar later.

3. Add the Vanilla and Cream:

  • Add the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk. Beat on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. If the frosting is too thick, add more cream or milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.

4. Adjust Consistency:

  • If you prefer a stiffer frosting, add the remaining powdered sugar. If you want it softer, add a little more cream or milk.

5. Optional – Add Salt:

  • For a balanced flavor, you can add a pinch of salt and beat until well combined.

6. Frost Your Dessert:

  • Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or any other desserts. This frosting spreads and pipes beautifully.

Tips:

  • Softened Butter: Make sure your butter is soft but not melted. If it’s too cold, the frosting won’t be as smooth.
  • Flavor Variations: For different flavors, you can substitute the vanilla extract with almond, lemon, or any other extract you like.
  • Storage: The frosting can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before using if refrigerated.

This Vanilla Buttercream Frosting is as simple as it gets and tastes incredible. It’s perfect for nearly any dessert, making it the go-to choice when you want something quick and delicious!
